FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Wild Line Film's Homeless documentary gets some State Government support.
Portland, Oregon - June 2, 2009 - The director of the Oregon Housing and Community Services Agency, Victor Merced, provided an interview for The Kings of the Corner, a documentary on homelessness in America, by filmmaker Jeff McDaniel.
"We are very excited for Mr. Merced and the State of Oregon to participate on the film; Victor offered very knowledgeable insight on this issue from the perspective of the Oregon state government." said the films producer and director Jeff McDaniel, "It was really a pleasure to interview him; Director Merced is very intelligent, well spoken and cares deeply about this issue."
Wild Line Films hopes to get more government officials participating on the documentary as well. "We have contacted city and state officials from a number of states, including Governors Ted Kulongoski of Oregon, Arnold Schwarzenegger of California and Jon Huntsman of Utah. Governor Kulongoski is busy with state matters, but will hopefully be available later this summer. We have not heard back from any others yet, but we are hopeful they will be in touch. We are also still waiting for a response from Portland Mayor Sam Adams."
The team will be contacting more city and state offices across the proposed film tour which includes more than 8,000 miles of road, across 25 states and more than 15 of the top 25 major metropolitan areas. The film offers a 360 degree look at homelessness across America that has not been seen before. "We are highlighting an important social issue in an effort to engage the public." McDaniel said, "This issue is rising in importance as homelessness grows across America; we are watching the very face of homelessness change by the day. It's not what it was even just 1 year ago."
Wild Line Films is funding the documentary, partially though public support. At least 50 percent of all profits from the film upon completion will be returned to the homeless community support is crucial. "We're boot strapping this film; there is no big budget sponsor or Hollywood investor helping us out; I'd rather there not be." said McDaniel who has been funding the films efforts himself, with a few small donations that have been offered by supportive people. However in spite of the fantastic moral support for the project, donations have lacked and the project is in danger of having to shut down. "We are asking for each person to give what they can, be it 1 dollar or 1000 dollars, everything helps the film and ultimately the homeless." McDaniel said.
Donations can be made on Wild Line Film's website www.wildlinefilms.com. "Each donation helps."
